Segmentation ResourcesThis is a featured page

Hi everyone,

Earlier this week I posted a note on the Social Marketing listserve asking for advice/resources on target audience analysis and selection. I received a wealth of information back from this posting (thank you to everyone who responded) that I wanted to send out.
Interestingly, the main recommendations for choosing a target audience were the stages of change model described by Andreasen and the TARPARE model.
Other resources sent to me included:
- CDCynergy tools/worksheets at: http://www.cdc.gov/std/healthcomm/cdcynergy.htm
- The CDC has a Social Marketing for Nutrition and Physical Activity web course on identifying and selecting a target audience. It can be found in the module on Phase One: Problem Description (then click on Target Audience). The link to the course itself is: http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/socialmarketing/training/index.htm
- Other sections within the course that deal with selecting a target audience: first in the Formative Research module (including information on audience segmentation), and next in the Strategy Development module (information on selecting a specific target audience).
- The Strategy Development module also includes a simple worksheet: http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/socialmarketing/training/pdf/audiencesegmentworksheet.doc
- The Community Toolbox (segmenting audiences section): http://ctb.ku.edu/tools/chapter_1045.htm
- Craig Lefebvres posted three great articles on his blogs: http://socialmarketing.blogs.com/r_craiig_lefebvres_social/2006/02/on_rediscoverin_1.html
- The Health Communication Unit (click on 'narrow by topics' - upper left hand side of resources that are displayed, and click step 3): http://www.thcu.ca/infoandresources/health_comm_map.cfm
Hope this is helpful for everyone!

Regards,
Jennifer Dooley, MSc.
