Hispanic Youth - A Significant Community in the U.S.This is a featured page

I was recently doing some research on social marketing campaigns that address alcohol abuse and its influences on underage youth, with a particular interest on Hispanic youth within the U.S. I became increasing frustrated when I was unable to find strong data that really just targeted this community. I also became increasingly disappointed when searching for social marketing campaigns that targeted this segment of the population, due to their relative non-existence. The one campaign that I did find was developed by MADD and the AdCouncil entitled, “Por Tu Hijo” / “For Your Child”. Unfortunately, nor in-depth data, information on the PSAs, brochures or advertisements were to be found anywhere. Neither the AdCouncil nor MADD had this information anymore, despite the continued advertisement of the campaign and its respective website on their web pages.

According to Census 2000 data, Hispanics are the fastest growing ethnic group in the U.S. Hispanics, whose median age is 26, now number 35.3 million residents and account for 12.5 percent of all 281 million U.S. residents. The Hispanic population has grown by nearly 60 percent since the 1990 Census and is expected to reach 59 million by 2030 and 81 million by 2050, making Hispanics the single largest minority group in the United States. Due to these facts, I would consider it even more important to have campaigns targeting this community. Since I was unsuccessful in my search for such a campaign, I thought that I could at least share the websites and data found on Hispanics and youth in general addressing underage drinking, for those who might be interested.
